If the title drew you in ‘hook, line and sinker’, excited you and made your interest rise then I apologize for getting your hopes up, you have read too many books and watched too many films. This is reality, and the truth is far less dramatic.

Yes the scene is one of ritual, and the use of a marble slab would thrill most of us, however a ritual is simply the witch way of creating sacred space and then being in communion with the Goddess and communicating one’s intent, an altar is lovely but not essential.

As a witch the most frequent question I am asked is “Are you a black witch or a white witch?”

This makes me cringe as I do my best not to take offense, for I am well aware none is intended however my hackles raise………..

A gun or knife is only as good as the motivation of the hand that holds it; yet this question is not asked of the police, armed forces, or the medical profession?

It would seem that the ‘church’ has done an incredible job of character assassination over the past millennium, that now the whole world presumes witches to be a risk factor. The word ‘witch’ is Anglo Saxon, and it simply means ‘wise woman’, and back then every village had one, it was an esteemed social position, and she was relied upon her for all manner of help, from guidance as to when to plant crops, to assisting at births and performing the Last Rites. Before Papal influence reached our shores witches were valued members of their communities, intelligent and independent ‘thinking’ females.

Since then much water has passed under the bridge, and at last the world has seen fit to value intelligent , independent free thinking females once again, so isn’t it time peoples attitude towards witches moved into the 21 century and stopped dwelling in the Dark Ages!

So I will answer this million dollar question- black or white?

A witch is as good or bad as the person within; a witch works with the energies of the earth, which are an equal harmonious balance of positive and negative; therefore both energy sources are available and a witch can choose, as can we all, to do right or do wrong!

So my answer is “I work for the light; for the betterment of humanity”

As a witch I follow a code that has been practiced for 30,000 years, the respect and love of Goddess and I work with her ‘light’ energies to help and heal. I am not anti Christ, Jesus was/is (for me) another piece of the vast jigsaw of knowledge that has been gifted to us over the centuries, and he is one of the most recent, only a mere 2,000 years ago. I do not believe in the Devil, he is an addition given to the Christian faith about 1,700 years ago because the Christians felt the need to personify evil thus giving focus to a counterbalance to God; to have good opposing evil, God opposing the Devil.

But please note, by not believing in the ‘devil’ I do not discredit evil, it is most definitely present within the world; however I do not think it has the form of a cloven footed entity running around tempting folk. I perceive the evil of this world to live within the hearts of those who do not daily denounce it; we are all capable of allowing the traits of negativity to take root and grow within us. It is our duty each and every day to affirm our connection with the light and to live accordingly.

Recent conversations from friends and family, who have reported back to me, the views they have heard voiced by their work colleagues and neighbors, causes me much concern for it illustrates the level of total ignorance that still exists within the general public. It would seem that they either refuse to accept that we do exist, and continually think anyone calling themselves a witch is acting, or just a weirdo; or that we are anti-Christian.

Please if you are one of these aforementioned misguided souls and formally ignorant let me assure you most of us seek to help and heal not to harm. Most of us are quite happy to co exist with all other aspects of Divinity, for it is our profound belief that the spiritual journey one makes is a personal experience of growth and knowledge, that each must embrace in their own way.

Red Ritual

'This ritual is to help women meet the challenge of female issues; blood marks us for the Goddess, it rules our lives.'

Wear red, dress your altar in red, red candles etc.

Waning moon, your moonblood time if possible.

Cast circle in your own usual method.

Sit in the centre, look deep into your altar red candle, into the heart of the flame, see it flickering, feel your heart beating, appreciate the energy of life- know what it means to be alive.

Now let your mind drift inwards as though through the flame you see inside your body; you have become so small that you are walking into the vast cavern that is you; it is like an enormous wondrous cave. There within the cave is beautiful Mother Earth, and it is evident that she is in charge of it all. She greets you with loving embrace and bids you sit by Her side, then She re-assures you that She will be presiding over whatever happens here, then She cuddles and rocks you; now you can ask Her questions if you have any, and listen to her answers.

Then She rises and bids you follow deeper into your inner cavern, where there are hundreds of laughing happy women; very like entering the moonblood area within a Neolithic Cave. You join them and dance with them until you are so tired you fall asleep amongst them upon the furs on the ground. You are content, and can rest assured that the Goddess has the whole of your well being in hand.

You feel yourself rising out of the inner cavern and bursting back into reality, now give thanks and close the circle. All will be well.

She will be watching and organizing!

Try to wear something red each day and say,

I am woman, I am Goddess, and I know the strength of blood.

Spell for Friendship & Sisterhood

This spell is to be worked around the kitchen table or similar- have friends present if pos. you could make it an old fashioned tea party. Wear organic clothing, each individual pick their favourite colour of the rainbow, then come dressed in that colour. On the table have a beautiful mixed coloured candle or a cluster of many coloured ones; have a small bowl or basket with moonstones in it, one for each friend; have a plate (or several plates) of cookies, cakes, or something special, it could be almost anything that you know everyone present will enjoy.

All spells should be crafted within a sacred circle, so cast your circle around the table , start in the EAST, go doesil/clockwise, if you have friends sharing the ritual perhaps they can help call the Quarters . Remember to place the candle upon the table in a fire proof container, likewise if you choose to burn incense.

Friendship spell:

This spell can be worked at anytime, even at your 11 o’clock tea break, or 3pm Tiffin!

Light candle, Cast circle.

Within your circle around the table, sit, ground and centre yourselves- breathe deeply, be one with creation, gaze into the flame of the central candle. As hostess pour drinks and handing them to each friend in turn say, “May you never thirst” Then pass the plate of biscuits or cakes saying “May you never hunger” as it passes from friend to friend each should repeat this blessing. Now YOU the hostess says:

“We are gathered in friendship, daughters of Eve,

As individual and beautiful as the colours of the rainbow,

Yet we are one.

A sisterhood bound by blood and the call of the moon.

Gracious Selene who has gazed down upon us through time and space,

Never let us forget our heritage, our true worth and our craft.

Henceforth let this moonstone remind us that we are rainbow sisters,

Bless us with the love and support of enduring friendship.”

Pass around the bowl of moonstones and each take one, it is an amulet of friendship and fellowship; place it somewhere safe.Enjoy the party and remember people need to be told their good points, and that they are loved and appreciated, The moonstones will be your reminder of this day; henceforth Selene will bless you and your friends, but She will also expect in return that you never let a gathering turn into a session of negative gossip

Protection

Spell for PROTECTION of the home and family.

Preparation-

The spell will be worked around the kitchen table or similar- have all family present if pos. and wear loose fitting clean organic clothing., All spells should be crafted within a sacred circle, so cast your circle around the table , start in the EAST, go doesil/clockwise. Remember to place candle when upon the table in a fire proof container, also when burning incense of ‘protection’ (bay, juniper, sandalwood).

You will need:

One brown candle (or a white candle with extra brown ribbon to tie a bow around it)

A small strong organic drawstring bag, or a square of material which you can tie with a ribbon to make a bindle.

Length of brown ribbon.

Fire agates (one for each family member and each pet)

HERBS- Oak leaves, and bay leaves.

A small organic (pottery wood or glass) bowl with some earth or dirt from around each of your *home’s doors.

Scissors.

(*Please note if you own more than one property you will have to repeat this spell for each individual property.)

Protection spell:

This spell can be worked at anytime, and any phase of the moon.

Within your circle have all the family sit around the table, ground and centre yourselves- breathe deeply, be one with creation, gaze into the flame of the central candle.

Put the herbs into the organic bowl which already contains the soil/dirt, and scrunch them up into it; then add the agate stones saying each name aloud as each is put in.

Then pass the bowl to each family member and have each cut a lock of their hair, but also cut the lock several times making it into little snippets of hair; these they put it into the bowl, and each must say:

“SPIRIT OF THE OAK BE AMONGST US, PROTECT US, AND PROTECT THIS OUR HOME”.

Even pets fur should be added. Now scrunch and mix it all up and well into the soil/dirt. When mixed up, stuff the tiny bag with it, or tip it into the centre of the fabric and make a bindle, then tie it securely closed.

Thank the spirits for their help as you open the circle, going widdershins /anticlockwise

Now hang the final assembled charm by, or over, the main household door.

While on the subject of protection:

MAKE A ‘WITCH BOTTLE, the traditional spell of PROTECTION .

In the empty jar put all things sharp, pins, needles, rusty nails and broken glass; to this add essence of you (hair, nail, snot, blood, saliva, urine) top up to full with urine then screw lid firmly back on.

Now bury it where it will not be disturbed, or hazardous to wildlife.

What does it do-

Any negativity sent to harm you will now no longer have a single solitary focus (just you), and as such will not be able to act, it will be confused, not able to sort you out from amongst all the sharp objects and thus you will be protected.

Amulet For Baby

To aid peaceful sleep, health and happiness.

You will need:

Thin pink or blue ribbon, drilled piece of jade, drilled amethyst, alphabet beads that spell the child’s name or a metal fob with the name pressed into it.

Choose a clear starry night. Cast Circle, call the quarters, and then call up Kuan Yin:

(Place her image on your altar, or hold her image in your mind- or her likeness in your hands- concentrate- wait until she comes; visualize Her coming to you from out of the ether)

“Kuan Yin I call upon you to preside over my ritual here tonight.

Mother of infinite Compassion I call you up, come now and share my circle.”

Wait for Her to arrive, you will need to keep focused upon her image walking towards you……feel Her getting nearer …..

Start assembling the amulet with the Jade saying:

“Greetings loving Mother, Kuan Yin, beloved protector of the very young tonight I make an amulet for ………………….the precious baby of ………………………;

this night and every night, let blessed sleep refresh, , happiness reside and health replenish.

Thread the Amethyst saying

Throughout life may this child enjoy balance in all things,

Bestow blessing of good health, long life and happiness.

With compassion and love, Kuan Yin,

Watch ever over……………”

Now taking letter name beads thread them also to complete the amulet.

Tie the last knot saying –

*“Gracious Kuan Yin this I respectfully ask of thee

With all the love there is in me

By the power of 3 x 3

As I will so mote it be.

Thankyou”

Close circle- place amulet on altar when indoors ready to give/send to the recipient..
